First PC build in a long, long time.

For the good part of 10 years, I was moving around a lot and never really had a home to set up a desktop computer. So with that, I was happy with just a laptop that would allow me to watch movies and surf the internet. I guess gaming was out of the question.

My trusty Acer laptop that I brought over from Melbourne was on its last legs with an overheating issue and due to the overheating, it had warped the keyboard PCB to the extent that certain keys would not work.

I used to have accessibility options enabled with an on-screen keyboard so I could click with a mouse for the certain keys.

This would take up half my screen real estate when typing

Then came my wife, Jade. She brought me a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 as a gift for quitting my cushy job at the time to earn a bit more to save up for our wedding.

For the longest time, I was happy with just a Surface Pro as my daily driver. It did what it needed to do. Send a few emails, surf the web, watch movies on a plane, that sort of thing. It was great to have a 2 in 1 (Tablet, Laptop).

Then I finally moved into a home of our own and I thought this is it. I can finally hook up my whole house with smart gadgets. My dreams were wild. I wanted everything in my house to be automated plus I wanted a media server so I could watch movies or TV series streamed internally in the house. So I brought old faithful.

My trusty PC for a good 2 years

This thing served me well for 2 years as I built a home automation hub to control my house and a Plex media server to stream my media, even to my mobile phone while I was away from home.

But over time its weak Gen 3 Intel i5 with 4gb of ram wasn’t cutting it. It was slow and laggy and I thought maybe some more ram will do the trick. 16gb it was, and for a while, it was working great but then I came across a great desktop deal as a complete upgrade and so began my journey of being reborn an IT geek.

It had come at a great time because within a day of purchasing it my trusty Dell power supply unit had blown up!!! And so begins the project “Red War Machine”

Hope you’ve enjoyed my very first official post. If you have any questions or suggestions for improvement please leave your comments below. Thanks so much for getting this far.

Until next time which will be about the current machine build you see all over my blog and business page.
